How to Enable or Disable the Zoom Waiting Room

The Waiting Room feature in Zoom lets hosts control when participants or the notetaker joins a meeting.

If you notice the notetaker bypassing a waiting room and joining your meeting without being admitted, you likely need to setup a waiting room in your Zoom account.
 

Enable or Disable Waiting Room (Account Level)

Requires Zoom account owner or admin permissions

  1. Sign in to the Zoom Web Portal.

  2. In the left navigation, select Account Management → Account Settings.

  3. Click the Meeting tab.

  4. Locate Waiting Room.

  5. Toggle the switch On or Off.

  6. (Optional) Click Lock to enforce this setting for all users.

Enable or Disable Waiting Room (Group Level)

Requires admin permissions

  1. Sign in to the Zoom Web Portal.

  2. Select User Management → Groups.

  3. Click the group name.

  4. Open the Meeting tab.

  5. Find Waiting Room and toggle On or Off.

  6. (Optional) Click Lock to apply to all users in the group.

Enable or Disable Waiting Room (User Level)

  1. Sign in to the Zoom Web Portal.

  2. Select Settings from the left navigation.

  3. Click the Meeting tab.

  4. Locate Waiting Room.

  5. Toggle the switch On or Off.

⚠️ If the setting is locked at the account or group level, it cannot be changed at the user level.

Enable or Disable Waiting Room for a Specific Meeting

  1. Sign in to the Zoom Web Portal.

  2. Select Meetings.

  3. Click the meeting you want to edit.

  4. Click Edit.

  5. Under Security, check or uncheck Waiting Room.

  6. Click Save.
